Secondary

The Secondary Department at Rossmar caters for pupils with statemented needs from the ages of 11-19. All of our pupils work within the NI Curriculum which is tailored to suit each of their needs and their ability. Individual targets are set for each pupil each term and then evaluated at the end of the term to monitor the pupil’s progress.

Key Stage 3 is from Years 8, 9 and 10 and the pupils complete work in Literacy, Numeracy, Science, RE, Learning for Life and Work, ICT, Home Economics, The Arts, PE and Technology. In Key Stage 4, which is Years 11 and 12, our pupils begin accreditation work in various subject areas and also attend the NWRC for Occupational Studies. Our Key Stage 5 group is known as Horizons and the pupils continue to build on the accreditation work and also have the opportunity to attend work experience once or twice a week.

Our new school is equipped to meet the needs of our children by having a Sensory Room, Total Immersion Room, Soft Play and Life Skills area where our pupils learn vital life skills to build up their independence for when they move on from Rossmar. We also have new and fully equipped rooms for Home Economics, Art, Music, Technology and ICT.

Our pupils also continue to work with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Music Therapist as well as having access to a Counsellor to ensure that all of their needs are being met.
