  • INFANT MENTAL HEALTH WEEK 13-19 JUNE

    Mon 20 Jun 2022

As no doubt many of you will be aware, this is Infant Mental Health Awareness Week. Pre-school education settings play an important role in fostering good mental wellbeing which is so important for children’s development, and I thought it timely to re-share a couple of resources developed which you might find useful to share with parents regarding the importance of supporting their child’s emotional development and well-being.

The NI Mental Health Champion, Professor Siobhan O’Neill recorded a short video last year aimed at parents of young children (approximately age 0-4, although not age specific). She provides simple tips to parents/carers about what they can do to support their children's emotional health and wellbeing, and talks about how to encourage young children to express their feelings and the importance of self-care for parents/carers. She also draws on her experience as a parent of a young child – see link below.

As we are approach the end of the school term it may also be useful to share a link to an adapted version of the PHA’s ‘Take 5 steps to wellbeing’ message, which focuses on young children and gives parents ideas of simple things they can do at home with their child linked to the Take 5 steps.

    Guidance for Close Contacts

    Dear Parent / Guardian

Please find attached guidance for PHA in relation to being in Contact with a positive case. Please note that if you child is identified as a close contact of a positive case that they must take a PCR test. I realise that this will be difficultly for many of our pupils but please not that if test not taken then your child must isolate for 10 days.

If any cases I will be liaising with PHA and completing full risk assessments

  • Text-a-Nurse

    Wed 24 Mar 2021

Text-a-Nurse service has been launched to provide young people with a secure and confidential text messaging service to a school nurse for advice and support.

The service is aimed at 11 to 19 year olds and will be delivered by the School Nursing Teams.  It is one of a range of resources to support the implementation of the Framework for Children and Young People’s Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Education.

This new scheme will allow young people to seek advice about sensitive health issues without a face to face appointment. School nurses will provide help on a range of issues including, emotional health and wellbeing, alcohol and drugs, sexual health, bullying and general health issues.

We hope through this non-judgemental, confidential text service young people will be empowered to ask those questions that they otherwise wouldn’t have the confidence to ask.

A qualified school nurse will respond to the young people’s messages using the secure ChatHealth web platform. ChatHealth is an award winning service in the UK and is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland and will transform the way young people communicate with health professionals.
