The Horizons Work Experience programme enables our students to access local facilities and meet new people whilst developing their employability skills. This vital element of the Horizons provision would not be possible without the generosity and support of local businesses. Unfortunately, we have had to postpone placing our current Horizons 1 and Horizons 2 pupils in a suitable work placement due to the ongoing pandemic.
In the past, students from Horizons have gained employment after taking part in this programme. Most recently Stuart Meenagh and Lewis Reilly have gained full time employment as a result of two very successful work placements. As well as this, Lori-Lynn Kennedy gained employment in 2016 after leaving Rossmar School.
Stuart Meenagh was a Horizons student from September 2017 - December 2019. Stuart spent a relatively short time on work placement at MIM-NI, a mechanical engineering company based in Maydown before being offered a position as a Workshop Technician. He has since completed all in-house induction training on equipment that he regularly uses. He has also completed a Counter-balance Forklift training course which enables him to operate a forklift around the ground of MIM-NI.
Lewis Reilly was a Horizons student from September 2017 - June 2020. Lewis gained employment as a General Assistant at Sydney B Scotts Fruit and Veg. Store in Aghadowey, Coleraine. Lewis' experience on his Grandparent's farm made him the perfect candidate to work with fresh produce all day long.
Tori-Lynn Kennedy was a Horizons student from September 2013 - June 2016. Tori- Lynn is very appreciative of the skills she gained from completing the Horizons programmme work placement, Tori- Lynn ended up getting a full time job in Marshall Howe Fruit & Vegetable Shop in Limavady. She began one day per week packing the vegetables out the back. Now she works on the shop floor operating the tills.
